Currently, toggling "blind grading" hides the profile photo and name, but otherwise everything stays the same. This opens the door to a few different biases in grading. First, with polls, you see the first few students' identities before you can toggle the "blind grading" tab. Additionally, after many classes, it's possible subconsciously recognize the first and last few students and develop a bias around their answers. Finally, it's possible that graders have a different level of scrutiny whether they are grading the first, tenth, or fifteenth answer. Having students always in the same order means that the same students would always have the same consequences of this bias.
These are all minimal, and there are certainly strategies graders can independently employ to avoid these biases. Nevertheless, shuffling students would eliminate these biases completely. This is especially important considering polls are often graded by TAs, who are students themselves and not as practiced with reducing personal bias in grading.
